In collaboration with NRCC, the Forest Department successfully collared two elephant herds—one at Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary and another at Jaldapara National Park. The collars, still active, continue to provide valuable movement data.
A preliminary survey assessed elephant migration impacts in Burdwan Forest Division. Recommendations include installing additional electric fencing, habitat improvement (grass, trees, water sources), and preparing a detailed project plan with local consultation.
Workshops were held with forest and railway officials to identify elephant crossing points along Kharagpur-Adra and Kharagpur-Tata tracks. Supported by WTI, WBFD, and NRCC, the initiative aims to reduce elephant-train collisions.

Two male elephants were captured in South Bengal and translocated to Buxa Tiger Reserve, North Bengal. Both were fitted with radio collars and are being monitored as they roam across forest areas including Chilapata, Cooch Behar, and western Assam.

The study covers Barbil and Champua ranges, highlighting critical forest blocks for elephant use. Findings stress safeguarding habitats and ensuring connectivity with Mayurbhanj and Saranda Forests for long-term conservation.

Site-specific surveys are being conducted in Hooghly, Rupnarayan, and Damodar rivers. The project includes stakeholder engagement, monitoring dolphin sightings and threats, and developing a conservation action plan.

In collaboration with WTI, NRCC is preparing a management plan to mitigate human-elephant conflict across six forest divisions in North Odisha.
